Three Peaks Challenge – Scott Roberts

13 June 2022

On Saturday the 16th of September, former Bosence resident – Scott Roberts will be taking part in the ‘Three Peaks Challenge’ to raise funds for Bosence.

The challenge involves climbing the three highest mountain peaks of Scotland, England and Wales, within a 24-hour period. The total walking distance is 23 miles, with a grueling total ascent of 3,064 metres. The Three mountains are: Snowdon in Wales (1,085m), Scarfell Pike in England (978m) and Ben Nevis in Scotland (1345m).

Scott completed three months treatment at Bosence Rehabilitation in March this year, having previously spent a month at Bosence Detoxification & Stabilisation. While undergoing treatment, Scott immersed himself in the range of opportunities available through the Bosence Ecotherapy and Horticulture project, which provided him with inspiration to take part in the Three Peaks Challenge.

Scott comments “While in treatment at Bosence I set myself a daily routine of walking the 2-acre bottom field each morning, followed by spending some time in the woodland, practicing the ‘Forest Bathing’ techniques I had learnt during one of the weekly ecotherapy sessions. I strongly feel the routine I put in place helped me to remain focused and I’ve continued to walk regularly ever since”.

Forest Bathing is a Japanese practice and is a process of relaxation; known in Japan as shinrin yoku. The simple method of being calm and quiet amongst the trees, observing nature whilst breathing deeply can help de-stress and boost health and wellbeing in a natural way. It is one of ten structured weekly ecotherapy sessions delivered by Bosence’s very own Horticulturalist – Noah Puddifoot-Hall.

We are very grateful to Scott for choosing to raise funds for Bosence and will be providing progress updates as the time draws closer. The funds raised from the event will be put towards our goal of purchasing equipment for an outdoor green gym, which is fitting as Scott himself greatly benefited from the spacious gardens, meadows and woodland we are so lucky to have.

If you’d like to contribute towards Scott’s efforts, you can do so by clicking on the link to his Just Giving page below. You can read more about Scott’s story, his reasons for taking part and his experience of his time with us. On behalf of Bosence we wish you the best of luck; we will be rooting for you.
