Ian Colton

Ian was born and brought up in Torquay where he attended Torquay Boys Grammar School. In 1972 he joined The Royal Navy on a ten year commission during which time he travelled extensively, visiting many European countries as well as The USA Hong Kong and Japan. The last two years of naval service were spent at RNAS Culdrose as an air traffic controller and on leaving the Royal Navy Ian retrained as a civil air traffic controller working for International Aeradio Ltd. In July 1982 he was posted to Dubai International Airport and whilst intending to ‘give it a go’ and ‘see what it was like’ ended up spending the next twenty eight years in The United Arab Emirates. He retired as Senior Operations Officer (ATC) in September 2010 and returned to live in Lowertown (just outside Helston) where he and his wife Linda had purchased their home in 1984.

Ian is an avid walker and has completed most of The Cornish section of The South West Coast Path.

Ian and Linda have two grown up boys and two grand children (so far)
