Mary and her family moved to Cornwall from Surrey 27 years ago, where she became involved first as Publicity Officer for the Cornwall branch of the British Red Cross; Mary was then invited to join the committee to raise the money to build the Mermaid Centre, which is now a successful One Stop Breast Care Unit at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. Following this, Mary became the Area Organiser for Cornwall for the British Heart Foundation. She is also a trustee for the Duchy Health Charity.
